Cloche

American

Not on view

The overall shape of this hat illustrates the transition of the style from the nineteen-teens to the twenties. The early cloche of 1917, introduced by Lucie Hamar, had a high crown with flat top and wide brim, while the cloche of the 1920s was characterized by a round close-fitting crown that may or may not have included a small brim.
