As a counterpoint to the slender body silhouette of the period 1906-1913, hats expanded, often to enormous size, reaching their maximum circumference of two yards in 1911. Despite the full, wide hairstyles worn at the time, hats of this size required an interior bandeau to support the oversize crown on the head. This example, unfortunately now devoid of its trimming, has the distinction of being the largest in the Collection, at 66 inches around the brim.
