In the late nineteenth century, collectors displayed historic examples of drinking vessels as works of art in their homes. This ewer imitates sixteenth-century glass models. Though it has the appearance of an everyday vessel for pouring liquids, the prickly pink handle suggests that it was intended as a showpiece.
