Tankard
Manufactory Vienna
Factory director Claudius Innocentius Du Paquier period Austrian
Not on view
Monochrome decoration ornamented Du Paquier porcelain from the beginning; indeed, it is one of the manufactory’s defining characteristics. It is found in several colors, including a lovely iron red. The name of the artist who painted this tankard is not known; his hand is found, however, on a number of other early pieces made at Du Paquier as well as on a Chinese bowl in the Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague, so it is likely that he both was employed within the factory and performed freelance, or Hausmaler, work.
