Mustard pot
Manufactory Meissen Manufactory German
This mustard pot comes from the so-called Anreevsky Service given by August III of Saxony, king of Poland (1734–1763), to Empress Elizabeth. The items of the service are decorated with the Russian imperial eagle and the badge of the Order of Saint Andrew, consisting of the figure of Saint Andrew crucified diagonally with S[anctus] A[ndreus] P[atronus] R[ussiae] on the extremities of the cross. The order was founded by Peter the Great in 1698. Archival documents record a receipt for the gift, which was personally unpacked by the empress.
