Grief
Albert Bartholomé French
Founder Siot-Decauville French
The painter Bartholomé, grief-stricken at the death of his young wife in 1886, turned to sculpture at the urging of his friend Degas. The result was the Monument to the Dead in the Père-Lachaise cemetary in Paris, completed in 1899, from which this figure was excerpted.
