Bowl from the Rambouillet service (Jatte écuelle)
Manufactory Sèvres Manufactory French
Model and decoration design attributed to Jean Jacques Lagrenée French
One of the most celebrated services of the late eighteenth century was created for Marie-Antoinette's pleasure dairy at the château of Rambouillet. The design of the service was in the most up to date neoclassical taste, and the somewhat austere painted decoration was inspired by Greek vases. While a total of sixty-five pieces were delivered in two shipments to Rambouillet, only fifteen pieces are known today.
