Fan
Not on view
Chantilly lace, alternating black and white and mounted on carved and pierced mother-of-pearl sticks, makes for a particularly stylish fan. Distinguished by a golden V with coronet, this fan belonged to an extravagant and renowned beauty of her day, Virginia Oldoini, the Countess of Castiglione. A gelatin silver photographic portrait print of the Countess holding this fan is in The Met's collection (47.149.15).
