Cain and Abel

Adolf von Hildebrand German

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 549

Author of the theoretical treatise, Das Problem der Form (1893), Hildebrand was deeply influenced by the sculpture of classical antiquity. His approach to sculpture was essentially that of a stone carver rather than a modeler.
