The influential English designer and writer Christopher Dresser greatly admired the arts of Japan, which he visited in 1877. This tea caddy reflects his desire to create original pieces by combining Asian ceramic forms with European decoration. The vivid pink resembles one of the ground colors used by the Sèvres manufactory.
