Terracotta ring vase

Greek, possibly Cumaean

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Vases with a vertical ring-shaped body occur sporadically in the Greek world. The present example is noteworthy for the combination of a twisted handle, flaring foot, and the body that is rounded in section. The object's place of origin has not been identified.
