Herakles attacking a centaur, probably Nessos
The Otterloo Painter favored a type of aryballos with a flattened bottom. The narrative, mythological subject is unusually ambitious in his work. The centaur Nessos offered to help Deianeira, Herakles' wife, ford a stream and, in so doing, attacked her. Herakles here draws his sword against the aggressor.
