Terracotta neck-amphora (jar)

Attributed to the Group of Toronto 305

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Obverse, Herakles and the Erymanthian boar
Reverse, three horsemen

It is worth noting that the youths on the reverse are nude. Since they are armed with spears, they appear to be setting out for a hunt. This scene contrasts with the depiction on the obverse where Herakles is returning to King Eurystheus with the Erymanthian boar.
