Herakles and the Nemean Lion
In the combat between Herakles and the Nemean Lion depicted here, the protagonists are locked together horizontally rather than confronting each other vertically. The distinction is of chronological import, as the horizontal scheme is the later one, becoming popular during the third quarter of the sixth century B.C.
