Bronze helmet of Corinthian type

Greek

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 155

This was the most common helmet worn by Greeks for hoplite (heavy infantry) warfare. Additional equipment typically included a cuirass (body armor), greaves (shin guards), a circular shield, a thrusting spear, and a short sword. This helmet is said to be from Olympia.
