Interior, maenad with bird

Like the cup by the Kiss Painter (07.286.50), this work was shaved down in antiquity. The iconography is interesting because maenads (female followers of Dionysos, the god of wine) are not commonly associated with birds. She seems to be letting a dove fly, much as Athena releases her owl.
