Silvered-tin phiale (libation bowl)
The identical raised design on both these phialai was hammered out over the same mold. The subject of the wide outer band is the apotheosis of Herakles. He has died and is being transported to Mount Olympos, the home of the gods, by a cortege of four chariots driven by winged Nikes. The chariot of Dionysos is followed by those of Herakles, Athena, and Ares. The inner zone shows gods feasting on Mount Olympos at the wedding of Herakles to Hebe, a daughter of Zeus and Hera.
