Terracotta lagynos (oil flask)

Greek

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Lagynos ware is named after the shape most commonly associated with the distinctive decorative style seen on this flask: canonical motifs such as wreaths, olive bows, baskets, and lagynoi themselves painted in a thinned orange-brown slip on a white ground.
