Terracotta amphora (jar)
Attributed to the Affecter
Obverse and reverse, men and youths
The Affecter is a particularly recognizable personality among artists of the second half of the sixth century B.C. The decoration of his vases accords so fully with the shapes that potter and painter were most likely the same individual. Noteworthy, however, is the volume of his shapes in contrast to the rigidity of his figures.
