Men courting women
Respectable women spent most of their time within the confines of home under the guardianship of their fathers or husbands. One of the few times when young men could see marriageable girls was at public festivals. This scene of men holding branches and speaking with women may show such an occasion, or it may represent an encounter with professional prostitutes.
