Terracotta oinochoe: chous (jug)
Attributed to the Niobid Painter
Komast (reveler) and dancing dwarf
This representation is noteworthy for the characterization of the two figures. The tall komast advances deliberately, playing the barbitos, a form of lyre. His head is wreathed, his cloak and a chous are slung over one shoulder, and he wears soft, high boots. The dwarf before him presents a considerable contrast with his jerky movements, nudity, pugnacious expression, and straggly beard.
