Strangways me dit qu'il va envoyer // un Courier en Italie, j'ai profité donc de cette occasion pour vous écrire deux mots. // J'espère que vous avez reçu le paquet de // dessins photogéniques que je vous ai envoyé // (il y a deux mois environ). À présent j'ai // joint à cette lettre quelques autres petites choses: //savoir, une vue de ma maison de Campagne // (qui était autrefois une vielle Abbaye, fondée en l'année 1229) C'est vue est prise avec la // Camera Obscura. Puis il y a un échantillon // de mes dessins faits avec le Microscope Solaire. // C'est un morceau de dentelle agrandi 400 fois // en surface. Ceci sera surtout utile aux // Naturalistes puisqu'on peut copier les choses // les plus difficiles par exemple les crystallisations // les parties minutieuses des plantes, &c. &c. avec // beaucoup de facilité. Puis il y a une Graminée // et un morceau de dentelle, et un autre de // crêpe, grandeur naturelle, pour en montrer combien l'image est nettement dessiné. [Mr. Strangways tells me that he will send a courier to Italy, so I will therefore take advantage of this occasion to write you a few words. I hope that you received the small package of photogenic drawings which I mailed to you (it was about two months ago). Presently, I have attached to this letter a few other little things: that is, a view of my country house (which was once an old Abbey, founded in the year 1229). This view was made with the Camera Obscura. Then there is a sampling of my drawings made with the Solar Microscope. This is a piece of lace enlarged 400 times in area. This will be useful above all for Naturalists since one can copy the most difficult things, for example the crystalizations of the most minute parts of plants, etc., etc. with great ease. Then there is a Gramineae [grass] and a piece of lace, and another piece of crêpe, natural size, to show how cleanly the image is drawn. I knew and practiced this art since the year 1834.]
