The Battle of Bunker Hill, a dramatic piece, etc.

1776
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 690
The year after the Battle of Bunker Hill (June 17, 1775), the headmaster of Maryland’s Somerset Academy responded with a play for his students to perform. Here, the engraved frontispiece mourns the tragic death of the young patriot leader Dr. Joseph Warren in the battle. Soon after writing this work, Brackenridge left teaching and became a chaplain in George Washington’s Continental Army.
