Presentation Drawing of a Country House (Villa Willet-Holthuysen, Le Vésinet, France)

1898
Not on view
This drawing is a late-nineteenth-century architect's rendering of the redesign proposed for the Villa Willet-Holthuysen in Le Vésinet in France. An original chalet-style residence was built on the site in 1876 for the Willet-Holthuysen family by the architect Francois Eugène Bardon (1843-1901). The original appearance of the building has been preserved in contemporary architectural prints. The structure was badly damaged by fire in 1884, however, and eventually sold to the De Plunkett family in 1898, the date found on this drawing. A renovation campaign based on the design it proposes was begun in 1899. The house was further modified in the twentieth century but survives to this day.
