Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin)
The slim, straight proportions and distinctive facial features of this figure are typical of the art of the Dali kingdom, based in the southwest province of Yunnan. Sculptures such as this, which represent a state icon often called the “Luck of Yunnan,” illustrate ties between this region and the cultural and artistic traditions of Southeast Asia.
