After John Wootton British
Engraver George Bickham, Jr. British

Not on view

Hunters and grooms prepare to set out on horseback, perhaps to course for hares. Surrounded by waiting hounds, Sir Robert Walpole appears at center seated on his white horse Chevalier. The present location of the related painting is unknown. Wootton painted a series of subjects for "The Hunting Hall" at Houghton, as well as for other great houses such as Longleat.
