Seated Saltimbanque

Not on view

Picasso convincingly conveys the heft of this seated circus performer with the utmost economy of line. He recast the rotund jester in the important 1905 painting Family of Saltimbanques (National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.), where he is, however, no longer seated but standing wearing a vibrant red leotard.
