The Uttaradhyayana sutra is considered a fundamental ("mula") text of Jainism, containing the teachings of Mahavira, the 24th and most recent Jina, considered to be the historical founder of Jainism. This sutra is largely devoted to the rules of behavior that govern monastic life. This page belonged to a pattern book used by painters employed to produce illustrated editions of this text, depicting scenes from chapters 7 and 8.
