Head of a Man
Vasilii Grigorievich Perov Russian
Not on view
The furrowed brow, tousled hair, and voluminous beard of the sitter bear no clue as to his identity. Based on the signature at upper right, this painting has been associated with the work of Perov, who was known for his unflinching depictions of peasants and of important Russian cultural figures such as the dramatist Aleksandr Ostrovsky and the novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
