Study of a Man, Bust-Length, in Moorish Costume
Attributed to William James Müller British
Not on view
Müller traveled to Egypt in 1838 and Asia Minor in 1841, but he probably painted this sketch afterwards, in London. There, he was a member of the Clipstone Group, a cluster of artists who operated an improvised studio where models were engaged for the purpose of study. This work may derive from one of those sessions and might depict an actor, possibly in the role of Othello.
