Not on view

Hoffmann's campaign of artistic reform extended to almost every material and type of object. The architect-designer devised this vase for the Wiener Werkstätte, the trailblazing arts and crafts studio that he founded in Vienna in 1903. The bell-shaped, silver form and decoration of scrolling flowers and stems reflect a shift away from the simple, geometric style favored during the first days of the studio. Similar floral ornament appears on the other workshop productions from about 1908.
