Marconi & Son
Richard Hamilton British
Not on view
In autumn 1990, after his sixth show with the Milanese gallerist Giorgio Marconi, Hamilton joined Marconi and his son Giò on a trip to Alba and Asti for white truffle season. Having snapped a photo of the two courtly art dealers in the lobby of their hotel, Hamilton enlarged the small-format image to a large scale in preparation for a painting, which amplified the photo’s grainy texture and flattened out the architectural space. Hamilton further exaggerated this abstraction of the walls and ceiling through digital manipulation, creating flat planes of Pointillist-like green, red, and white—the colors of Italy’s flag.
