This silkscreen’s title is an acronym for “This Is Tomorrow,” the landmark 1956 exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, organized by members of the Independent Group (1952–55). Hamilton, together with John Voelcker and John McHale, designed a “Funhouse” installation for the show around the theme “Perception and Imagery.” When a re-creation of the “Funhouse” was included in a 2000 survey of his installations in Germany, Hamilton reimagined the room for the exhibition’s poster. The final version here—initially designed on Adobe Illustrator—was printed with thirty carefully stenciled screens and includes a Rotorelief (1935) by Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968) at the top left.
