The Euphoria necklace is part of a collection of jewelry designed for Memphis Milano. The collection debuted at the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in 1986, along with other Memphis works. This necklace embodies the colorful, playful aesthetic unique to the group, with semiotic allusions to Egyptian amuletic jewelry rendered in more common, inexpensive materials. In his essay "Disegno magico" (Magic Design), Sottsass writes about transferring the magic properties that ancient peoples invested in their objects into his own abstractions.
