Tsa Yanshtqi (basket drum)

Native American (Navaho)

Not on view

Coiled baskets used for musical purposes are known by several names among First Nations people in the U.S. Southwest. Inverted baskets functioned as a resonator for a rasp or, like this example, were beaten with highly perishable folded yucca leaves to accompany rituals.
