Whistle
Native American (Oglala Lakota, Sioux)
Not on view
Whistle with the end carved in the form of a bird's head. Sound is generated by a current of air striking the sharp edge of a piece of split quill placed over the opening in the side of the pipe. Such whistles are used at the ceremonial Crane Dance.
