Bagpipe Bag

This beautifully crafted bag, made of goatskin and leather, was used to carry a bagpipe. It features an adjustable leather strap decorated with delicate leather weavings. The bag has a burlap-lined pocket that closes with a leather flap. The top of the bag can be closed with a leather drawstring, ending in a leather tassel. The bag is ornately decorated with leather weavings. This bag was most likely sent with a bagpipe by F. Ch. Wohlbold (Bock #89.4.2769) as the instrument acquisition numbers are consecutive. This is often the case for objects that arrived together from the same dealer. The bagpipe cost 100 Mark, which the Dresdner Bank considered expensive. In comparison, the same shipment included a ‘small piano’, which cost 250 Mark (Dresdner Bank 1902).
