Lamp with Athena-Neit
Roman Period
Images created in terracotta were popular in domestic and funerary contexts. Athena-Neit is often depicted on lamps and lanterns. The association of the goddess with light is noted already in the fifth century BC by Herodotus who reports a nocturnal festival of lights in honor of Neit.
