Mummy Cloth Fragment of Ramesses III

New Kingdom, Ramesside

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

Used in the wrappings of the mummy of Ramesses III, this piece of buff linen has a selvage on one end, with three brown stripes parallel to it. The selvage is unusual, made by groups of weft threads woven in at one time.
