Vessel fragment of Tell Basta Treasure

Third Intermediate Period

Not on view

This vessel fragment with rivets is part of the "Tell Basta Treasure," found in 1906 at the site of Tell Basta. It is likely a fragment from the body a shallow strainer used in a drinking service; a handle would have been attached by the rivets. (See 30.8.369 for a complete example). The ancient Egyptians would have used such strainers to filter out sediment from wine.
