Raised Relief Fragment with Two Wild Felines

Old Kingdom

On View Gallery

The low raised relief fragment depicts two wild felines walking to the left. The rump, tail, and the tops of both hind legs remain from the larger animal at left. Preserved from the second animal are the head, neck, and front of the body, with a short, triangular ear and sharply cut eye. There is a large area of background above the animals. The felines originate from a nature scene, probably either a depiction of the seasons of the Egyptian year or the king hunting wild animals.
