Conflict 23

Lucas Samaras American, born Greece

Not on view

In 2003, Samaras began his series of Photofictions using a Leica digital camera and Adobe Photoshop. For some of these works he photographed himself in the studio and then inserted his self-portraits into a variety of New York cityscapes. Having previously created an innovative body of work with the Polaroid camera, Samaras was attracted to the transformative power of this new technology: "The digital Leica allowed me to translate the outside world into my own world."
