Rectangular sheet of paper with a textile design from a group, dated 1840, made in Mulhouse, Alsace, which was an important nineteenth-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. The design is made up of alternating rows of bunches of scrolling branches with stylized leaves and a paisley motif over a dark burgundy ground. The stylized leaves are colored with reddish-tan and green. The paisley motifs are colored with red and black, and have a small stylized flower flanked by a stem with leaves of black color and outlined with white.
