Studio d'Arts Décoratifs, 3e Série, Pl. 4, Huit Motifs, genre Chinois et Japonais

Fourth plate of the third series of pochoir pattern books, titled "Studio d'arts décoratifs", with Art Deco textile designs created by Nicolas Sorokine and published in Paris by Armand Guérinet, probably in the second half of the 1920s or the early 1930s. The series consists of a title page with index and 12 plates with designs numbered 1-12, each with numerous designs, bound with dark blue linen boards. The designs contain a variety of geometric motifs, birds and flowers, all typical of the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American "exotic" cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times.

This plate consists of eight designs with Chinese- and Japanese-inspired motifs. The first design is made up of horizontal black stripes with zig-zagging edges separated by rows of stylized red flowers or rows of tiny alternating red triangles and a grid made with thin red lines over a cream ground. The second design is made up of semi-abstract trees with dark blue branches and square red leaves and dark blue and red lines. The third design is made up of semi-abstract flowers colored with dark blue and red over a white ground. The fourth design is made up of black semi-abstract flowers and yellow-and-white squares over a dark blue ground. The fifth design is made up of alternating vertical garlands of semi-abstract purple flowers and green leaves and green branches with blue and purple thorns over an off-white ground. The sixth design is made up of two large stylized flowers with orange-and-blue and yellow-and-purple petals on stems with leaves colored with tan, yellow and green over an off-white ground. The seventh design is made up of abstract feathers (?), circles and undulating motifs colored with yellow and shades of gray over a cream ground. The final design is made up of abstract flowers and leaves and clusters of tiny rectangles executed with dark blue, black and yellow over an off-white ground.
