56th plate of album with 60 19th-century costume plates and 1 drawing of mostly women's historical costumes, featuring a variety of designs for traditional costumes from different parts of the world, as well as costumes for literary characters, including Esmeralda. This plate consists of a woman wearing a "Theodora" court dress, made up of a light purple gown with burgundy scrolling motifs over a white shirt with ruffles on the collar and strips of golden beads, with dark green sleeves with white ruffled cuffs, and with ermin fur on the borders of the front slit of the skirt, over a burgundy underskirt, worn under a dark green cape with green scrolling motifs and light green linings. She wears a purple, pointed hat on her head with a white veil that hangs from it behind her back, and a silver chain belt around her waist. A small, burgundy shoe can be seen emerging from the bottom of her skirt. She holds a square fan with zig-zagging edges, executed with shades of brown.
