Untitled is eerie, beautiful, and otherworldly. The composition is comprised of intersecting lines, each one connected to a network of nodal points. This network forms an intricate, architectonic lattice that overlays a thicket of organic, scalloped-shaped forms reminiscent of petals or shells. These forms thicken as they reach the center of the composition, creating the illusion of spatial recession and, by extension, of a mysterious, inaccessible core. Overall, the work reflects Talasnik’s appreciation for the aesthetics of science fiction and fantastic architecture. The artist’s technique is both additive and subtractive: variations in tone are created by selectively removing graphite with an eraser.
