Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of an Incroyable, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 male and female costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a green coat with short, black collar, wide sleeves, and brown buttons, worn open over a light gray double-breasted vest, unbuttoned on the chest, and partially covering a white scarf that is wrapped around the neck and the shirt collar, and tied to form a small knot under the chin, and tight-fitting, light green knee breeches, with two buttons on each knee and thin ribbons tied to form bows that hang under the knees, white hose with thin, vertical, black stripes, and black, slipper shoes. The hair is worn short, in the style of Charles XII, and the black hat, is held under the arm. The hands are covered with light green gloves, and one of them holds a knotty wooden cudgel.
