Plate, part of a collection of 30 pochoir pattern plates, originally part of a book titled "Les fleurs et leurs applications décoratives" (Flowers and their decorative applications), created by Émile-Allain Séguy and published in Paris by A. Calavas, as part of the collection "Librairie des Arts Decoratifs" (Library of Decorative Arts) in 1902. The plate features three ornamental designs inspired on the natural beauty of poppies, providing what Séguy considered a successful example of the application of scientific study of flowers in artistic creation, resulting in colorful designs likely intended for textiles or wallpapers. The first design is made up of a bundle of stylized leaves, colored with red, and thin, scrolling branches, colored with pastel orange, with semi-abstract poppies, executed with blue, green, and light brown, on an orange ground. The second design is made up of thin, vertical branches, executed with pastel green, and semi-abstract poppies, executed with purple and shades of green, on a green ground. The third design is made up of a bundle of semi-abstract poppies, executed with purple, green, and brown, inside two heart motifs made up of thin branches, colored with brown and blue, and surrounded by semi-abstract leaves, outlined with green, which flank a bundle of stylized leaves, colored with brown, over a light brown ground.
