The Golden Idol

Arlene Shechet American

Not on view

The Golden Idol incorporates architectural forms, such as bricks, slabs, and capitals, into a three-dimensional collage comprised of found motifs associated with eighteenth-century European decorative art. This sculpture is an example from Shechet’s Meissen Recast series (2012–13), for which the artist created plaster reproductions of original factory molds while in residence at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in Germany.
