Glass striped mosaic bowl fragments

Roman

Not on view

Two non-conjoining fragments of rim and side of a bowl.

Translucent cobalt blue, light blue appearing turquoise green, brownish purple, opaque white and red.

Vertical rounded rim; convex curving side, tapering inward to bottom.

Striped mosaic pattern formed from lengths of two alternating canes: one with stripes in red flanked to either side by white, blue, and green, and the other in alternating squares, one in blue, the other in a purple ground containing a star pattern of five central white rods encircled by white and purple rings. A blue network cane wound with a white spiral thread is attached as a rim.

Some polishing of exterior, with areas of pitting and iridescent weathering, especially on white stripes and red completely weathered on exterior; dulling and slight pitting on interior.
